Preparation and Paperwork
 

• Advance entry: Formal shows require booking before a strict deadline; you cannot enter on the day.
• Registration docs: Bring your animal's official pedigree papers, registration confirmation (such as records from Royal Kennel Club) and current vaccination cards.
• Age eligibility: Verify your animal meets the minimum age requirement (typically 6 months or older for most breed classes).

​Grooming and Dress Code

• Breed standard: Clean and groom your animal precisely to the rules set out by the specific breed society.
• Handler attire: Dress smartly in clothes that complement your animal (e.g., trousers and a jacket for dog shows, or a white coat and smart boots for livestock). Ensure footwear allows you to move or run quickly. 

In the Ring

• Practice moving your animal at the correct gait (like a trot) and posing/stacking them so the judge can assess their structure.
• Listen closely to the judge and ring steward, moving promptly when called.
• Maintain a safe distance from the animal and handler in front of you and display good sportsmanship.
