KENNEL CLUB GOOD CITIZEN DOG TRAINING SCHEME

This is for those wishing to practice for their Bronze,Silver & Gold Awards.  All aspects of the requirements to achieve each of the Awards are worked on over as many weeks as you may wish, it is NOT compulsory to take the test but this will be made available roughly every 3 months. Please note you cannot take a more advanced test until you have the prior certificate.

A Rosette and Certificate is presented to everyone passing each award with disks also available to purchase, all testing is undertaken by KC approved judges who are totally independent of the club.

Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award

Tuesday Evening 8:00pm - 8.30pm

Course Fee:

£4 per dog (per class) or £6 for two dogs (Payable on the night)

 

Course Criteria:

  • All dogs must be fully vaccinated
  • All dogs must be microchipped
  • All dogs must have an engraved tag

 

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bronze Award aims to produce a dog that will walk and
behave in a controlled manner on the lead, will stay in one position on command, will allow its
owner to clean, groom and inspect it, a dog that will walk and behave in a happy natural manner,
under control on the lead. The dog must also be able to be positioned by its handler for inspection
i.e. stand, sit or lie down on either side or on its back, all on the lead. The dog must come to hand when called.
The Bronze award aims to provide the handlers with a basic knowledge of understanding and training their canine
companion.

 You will be taught the following:

- walking your dog on a lead

- Cleanliness and Identification

Collar, Lead and Equipment

- Walk on Lead

- Control at Door/Gate

- Controlled Walk Amongst People And Dogs

- Stay on Lead for One Minute

- Grooming

- Examination of the Dog

- Return to Handler

- Responsibility and Care

 

 

 

 

Kennel Club Good Citizen Silver & Gold Award

Tuesday Evening 8:30pm - 9:00pm

Course Criteria:

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Silver Award aims to build upon the skills learned in the Bronze
Award whilst increasing the level of difficulty. The Silver Award is a natural progression of practical dog
training skills and introduces new concepts such as the controlled greeting, road walk and vehicle control
exercises which are important in everyday life situations. The Silver Award aims to provide handlers with a
good knowledge of understanding and training their canine companion.

You will be taught the following:

Play with the Dog

- Road Walk

Rejoin handler

- Stay in One Place for Two Minutes

- Vehicle Control

- Come away from Distractions

- Controlled Greeting

- Food Manners

- Examination of the Dog

- Responsibility and Care

 

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Gold Award is the highest level of achievement of the Scheme.
It builds upon the skills learnt in the Silver Award and develops more advance training skills of the dog and
handler. The Gold Award is a natural progression of practical dog training skills and introduces new concepts
such as relaxed isolation, stop the dog and send the dog to bed exercises, which are important in every day
life situations. The Gold Award aims to provide handlers with a greater knowledge and understanding of
their canine companion. Dogs that are awarded a Gold Certificate should reach the required standards in all
exercises and be a worthy representative of the Scheme’s highest standard. 

 You will be taught the following:

- Return to Handlers side

- Road Walk

Walk free beside handler

- Stay down in one place

- Send the dog to bed

- Stop the dog

- Relaxed isolation
